DIFFUN, QUIRINO, September 3, 2018

— The Department of Science and Technology conducts Food safety, 5S for Productivity, Packaging and Labeling, FDA – LTO and livelihood Training for SETUP Beneficiary in QSU, A. Bonifacio, Diffun, Quirino, August 29-30, 2018.

Atleast eighteen (18) firms attended the Food safety, 5S for Productivity, Packaging and Labeling, FDA – LTO and livelihood Training in QSU, A. Bonifacio, Diffun, Quirino, August 29-30, 2018.

The participants are firms from food sector under the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP). This training aims to increase awareness on proper food handling and help MSME’s propagate their business to FDA LTO compliant.

“Ang traning na ito ang tutulong na mai-promote ang gastronomic tourism ng Quirino”, said Dr. Herminigildo F. Samoy – VP for Academic and Related Affairs of QSU in his welcome address.

Meanwhile, Ms. Aileen C. Gonzales of DOST 02 Food Safety Team stressed the Food Hazard and Food Hygiene requirements needed to ensure food safety. Also, to enforce proper handling Dr. Melfei E. Bungihan discussed information regarding food contamination. This knowledge helps the participants to be more careful in preparing menu’s to be served for their clients. After which, a livelihood training on dish washing liquid formulation.

The participants experienced first-hand the visit and ocular inspection to Quirino-Packaging Center and Product Development and Training Centers for evaluation and improvement.

On the second day, FDA – Licensed to Operate Requirements and 5S for Productivity is discussed by Ms. Gonzales, then Packaging and Labeling discussion is discussed by Mr. Steevengel Lagundi of Food Innovation Center.

On the closing program, Dr. Bungihan mentioned that the food safety team will help firm to confirm, to be licensed and be certified. She also stressed that applying the knowledge acquired in the training will help food handlers adopt the exceptional standards to be qualified with the elite manufacturers.

Meanwhile, is the awarding of certificates to all the participants who completed the two-day training.
